Young Women's Christian Association of Greater Pittsburgh photographs 1920-1984 [picture].

These photographs are divided into three series that depict the activities, areas and centers, and people of the YWCA. The activity photographs represent exercise, trade and craft classses mostly from 1977-1984. The area and centers correspond to people and events asssociated with specific centers. The photographs of people portray staff members, executive officers and visitors.

The Young Women's Christian Association began in 1875 as a religious organization, but it soon expanded to provide relief work and religious and vocational outreach for all people in the community who needed help. In 1906 all the independent associations of Pittsburgh organized into a centralized unit and joined the YWCA national board.
